The Cultural Innovation Competence Centre Association (CICC) was established in order to create the network of cooperation between small and medium businesses in the fields of culture and the creative industry, and to promote the establishment of an innovative economic milieu by means of the network-oriented development of each sector, enhancing the cohesion of South West Hungary, and thus to contribute to the renewal of the current socio-economic structure.

The association intends to join the creative industrial activities of the Pólus and EKF projects.

It is our goal to create an effective knowledge base to be used by Project Pólus and the European Capital of Culture 2010 – Pécs Programme, as well as to create the conditions for a successful cooperation in the competitive market, to create a common market by integrating small and medium businesses in the creative and cultural industry into a network, and to ensure their coordinated cooperation. By creating the common market and through joint efforts, even large projects can be undertaken and successfully completed.

It is important that the local and regional cultural institutions should be developed with an intensity and in a direction that will enable them to effectively integrate into the current active cooperation between European regions, cities and villages and into the international exchange of services. To this end, their cooperation also needs to be encouraged.

The CICC Association was established on 26 April 2006, with its seat in Pécs. On 31 January 2007, its institute called the Cultural Industry Cluster of South West Hungary was also founded. This cultural cluster is intended to serve as an umbrella organisation for the creative industry in the region.

Since the cultural industry is rather complex, and there are large differences between the various actors, it is necessary to create so-called “internal” creative networks coordinated by the cluster management.

There exist the following industry sector networks:

  • Media and publishing houses;
  • Enterprises in the fields of event organisation and exhibitions;
  • Public cultural institutions (libraries, community and art centres, museums and theatres)
  • Printing, graphic implementation and design;
  • Performing artists, artist associations and music groups.

Objectives

After the establishment of the Cultural Innovation Competence Centre Association, our primary objective was to create a cultural industry cluster, which was founded on 31 January 2007 under the name of Cultural Industry Cluster of South West Hungary.

The shared goals of the CICC Association and the SWH Cluster include the creation of a cultural innovation network, establishing the cooperation of the actors in the innovation industry, establishing a training and consulting system that is in line with the directions of development of the cultural industry, as well as communicating the innovative achievements attained in the cultural industry.

For further details see the "Cluster” section.
